Fold Up Day is a yearly event Fold Up Toys site, which takes place on the 25th of April and celebrates all the toys released on it throughout the last year and all those people who love folding paper. Every year I release a new free papercraft to mark the occasion.
As I designed this toy I was feeling nostalgic for the flip phone, I miss the cathartic hand-whip action that you’d make to flip the phone out, answer the call and hold it to your ear. It was just so satisfying! I can fondly remember sitting there for hours flipping and un-flipping my phone over and over again, I kind of miss when phones had moving parts and didn’t all look like an obsidian rectangle. Is this what getting old feels like? If so, that’s fine with me.
For Fold Up Day 2022, here’s a scrumptious Strawberry Flip Phone and includes artwork by the amazing pixel illustrator Castpixel on the front and back screen, who I previously had the pleasure of collaborating with to make a spooky sacrifices covered Embalmed Queen, which you can also download for free.
